Inveco Group and the Oscar Piattella Archive, together to pay tribute to the art of Master Oscar Piattella
The recent retrospective dedicated to Oscar Piattella has just concluded, spread across three exhibition venues in the city of Bologna. Gruppo Inveco and the Oscar Piattella Archive, chaired by Fernando Barbetti, a significant figure in the Italian cultural and entrepreneurial landscape, support and promote the exhibition. It is a valuable opportunity to rediscover an artist who, through his painting, tells the complexities of modern times, leaving an indelible mark on the history of contemporary art.

One exhibition, three locations:
“The Walls” at the Chapel of Santa Maria dei Bulgari in the Archiginnasio Library. Eight works explore Piattella’s investigation into the concept of layering and memory. The Walls engage in dialogue with the luminous scenography of visual designer Paolo Buroni.
“Signs of the Cosmos”, at the PwC Italia headquarters, delves into the relationship between humanity and the universe. The exhibited works, through their compositional structure and chromatic exploration, reveal the artist’s fascination with the cosmological dimension and the mystery of the infinite.
“Architectural Magnetism” at Galleria Stefano Forni. The interaction between Piattella’s painting and architectural space. The artist, with his distinctive mark-making, transforms the canvas surface into a place of tension and depth, creating a dialogue between form and structure.
The exhibition is promoted by the Oscar Piattella Archive. Curated by Aldo Iori and Alberto Mazzacchera. With the patronage of do ut do. In collaboration with the Archiginnasio Library and the sponsors: Illumia, Gruppo Inveco, PwC, and Ti Style iT. It offers an in-depth look into the artistic legacy of the Pesaro-born artist, who had strong ties to Gubbio (PG). A unique figure who reinterprets contemporary painting through a singular language in constant dialogue between light, matter, and space.
A finissage between art and performance
On March 8, 2025, the final day of the retrospective, Bologna celebrates Piattella with a finissage filled with art and performance.
In Piazza Maggiore, the Sbandieratori of Gubbio pay tribute to Piattella with an evocative performance titled “Art in the Wind,” waving banners inspired by his works.
At the Archiginnasio, a roundtable discussion is held with art critics and historians, who exchange views on the significance of Piattella’s pictorial research within the contemporary art scene.

Who Was Oscar Piattella
Oscar Piattella was born in Pesaro in 1932. After a brief experience with figurative art, he turned towards Informalism—an artistic movement that emerged in Europe between the 1940s and 1950s. This movement is characterized by the abandonment of traditional figurative representation in favor of spontaneous and gestural expression. Later on, Piattella developed an autonomous language that merged painting and architecture, while remaining closely connected to the contemporary European artistic research that he followed with great interest.
In 1957, he moved to Cantiano (PU), where he lived and worked until his death in 2023.
In 1958, Franco Russoli, director of the Pinacoteca di Brera, organized a solo exhibition for him at the Galleria dell’Ariete in Milan—an event that enabled Piattella to connect with artists such as Lucio Fontana and Enrico Castellani.
Oscar Piattella was a refined artist and tireless experimenter, deeply engaged in research on pictorial material. He was one of the leading figures in the renewal of art, alongside Arnaldo and Giò Pomodoro, Loreno Sguanci, Giuliano Vangi, and Nanni Valentini.
Throughout his artistic career, Piattella developed a strong bond with Gubbio (PG), which was reflected in numerous solo exhibitions held in the medieval town of Umbria, including a significant show at the Palazzo Ducale in 2010.
His artistic research focused on the use of materials and light—key themes in the series “I Muri” (“The Walls”). Over time, his works were featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions both in Italy and abroad, earning praise from both critics and the public, who recognized the poetic vision behind his exploration of the relationship between humanity, nature, and history.
