Replacement of Polycarbonate Sheets Damaged by Hail

The intervention at the Anodall plant in Roncolevà (VR) is part of a longstanding collaboration with the client, who was also involved in a previous project for the installation of a 3 MW photovoltaic system in Trevenzuolo (VR).

This time, our company focused on repairing the industrial roof, which was damaged by a severe hailstorm.

The intervention aimed to enhance the functionality and safety of the building, involving the replacement of all damaged polycarbonate panels, with a special emphasis on advanced technologies to ensure resistance and long-term durability.

The damaged polycarbonate panels can not only lead to water infiltration, potentially causing damage to internal systems, but also pose a safety risk to workers.

The intervention carried out at Anodall was therefore essential to prevent future structural issues and improve working conditions within the facility.

Technical Details of the Intervention: Replacement of Polycarbonate Panels

In detail, the intervention involved the removal of the damaged panels and the installation of new corrugated sheets made of solid polycarbonate, a material known for its resistance to impacts and hail.

The technical specifications of the new sheets include:

  • Thickness of 1mm
  • Profile with 5 corrugations, 250 mm pitch, and 40 mm height
  • Fire reaction class Euroclass B-s1-d0

Plate Replacement Process.

The first phase of the project involved the removal of the damaged slabs, which were subsequently brought down and disposed of at an authorized landfill, in full compliance with current safety and environmental regulations.

Installation of the New Slabs

After the removal, compact polycarbonate panels were installed, secured to the underlying structure with steel screws and ‘baz’ type EPDM sealing gaskets, ensuring optimal protection against leaks and weather conditions.

Ridge fillers were also used, and the ridge flashings were restored, resulting in an impeccable aesthetic and functional finish.

Advantages of Using Polycarbonate Sheets for Industrial Roofing

The use of solid polycarbonate for industrial roofing offers numerous advantages:

  • Impact Resistance: Thanks to its high resistance, polycarbonate can withstand significant impacts, such as those caused by hail or other extreme weather events.
  • Durability: The new sheets installed at the Anodall plant have a very long lifespan, reducing the need for frequent maintenance.
  • Safety: The material used is fire-retardant, with a fire reaction rating of B-s1-d0, which minimizes fire risks.
  • Light Transmission: Solid polycarbonate also has good transparency, allowing for the optimization of natural light within the facility, thereby reducing energy consumption.

The replacement of damaged panels will not only enhance structural safety but also improve the energy efficiency of the entire facility.

The new corrugated polycarbonate panels will provide better insulation and thermal protection, reducing heat dispersion and helping to optimize energy consumption.

This will result in reduced use of climate control systems, leading to cost savings and a positive environmental impact.

Scope and Timeline of the Intervention

The intervention covers a total area of 565 sqm, with the installation of:

  • 24 panels of 5900 mm
  • 60 panels of 5700 mm
  • 48 panels of 2000 mm

Implementation Timeline

The completion of the work required one week, ensuring rapid execution times and minimal disruption to the plant’s production activities.
